What is a Metaverse?
The metaverse, as I see it, is a network of the virtual and real worlds.
The easiest way to understand this is to compare it with the Internet today. The Internet today is mostly a network of computers and computer-controlled devices. The main activity that goes on in the Internet today is people visiting Web sites and sending e-mail and instant messages to one another.
The metaverse will start out as a network of computers and computer-controlled devices, just like today's Internet. But we need to expand that definition to also include virtual worlds (such as Second Life) and real worlds (such as your town) that are digitally represented.
Why should we expand the definition? Because any world that can be programmed can be part of the metaverse. If you can write code for something, then you can make it part of the metaverse. This means that other kinds of digital objects and places will become part of the metaverse: video games, movies, television shows, books, newspapers, blogs, paintings, sculptures, people's workspaces and homes.
This may sound strange; after all, we're already used to thinking about those things being separate from one another. But it's really just an extension of what we've already been doing
The metaverse is a virtual reality platform where you can create and experience anything you can imagine, with people from all around the world. It will be made possible by VR technology coupled with blockchain-based governance and economic systems.
The metaverse will be the foundation of our digital lives: a 3D, interactive, shared space that transcends physical boundaries and allows us to project our imaginations into shared experiences.
